Meet the face behind Physiotherapy On The Green

About Me - Ian Balmer

I’m a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with years of experience working across a variety of clinical and sporting environments. Having lived in Crowborough for a number of years, I’m proud to now be opening my own physiotherapy practice in my hometown, where I can give back to the community that shaped me and my family.

Academic Training & Qualifications

I hold a BSc in Physiotherapy and a Postgraduate Certificate in Strength and Conditioning Science. I’ve also gained a Bronze accreditation with the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports and Exercise Medicine (ACPSEM), alongside additional specialist qualifications, including:

  • Medical Acupuncture

  • FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine

  • Level 2 Personal Trainer Certification

  • Clinical Pilates (Level 1)

  • ACPSEM Sports Taping & Rock Taping

I’m passionate about continuous professional development, having completed further training in shockwave therapy, complex shoulder pathology, running-related injuries, sacroiliac dysfunction, muscle energy techniques, and many other areas.

My Experience

Over the course of my career, I’ve been fortunate to work in a wide range of settings. I started out working in professional football with Brighton & Hove Albion FC, before spending five years as Lead Clinician for the 36 Engineer Regiment and the Queen’s Gurkhas.

Most recently, I’ve been working as an Advanced Practitioner at Horder Healthcare, specialising in complex hip and knee pathologies. I’ve also collaborated with physiotherapists from the Great Britain Olympic Team during my ACPSEM accreditation, further refining my skills in sports injury rehabilitation.

Earlier in my career, I gained valuable experience in a complex rehabilitation hospital, treating patients with chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, spinal cord injuries, stroke, and multiple sclerosis. These diverse roles have given me a deep understanding of both acute and chronic conditions, helping me provide tailored, evidence-based care.

Outside of Work

Health and fitness play a huge part in my own life. I enjoy CrossFit, Olympic weightlifting, and running with my local club. Since 2019, I’ve been taking on marathons, and before that, I played semi-professional football. Away from sport, I’m a proud dad to two wonderful daughters, who keep me just as active at home!

My Aim

My goal is simple: to educate, reassure, and empower patients to take control of their health. I believe in improving quality of life through a combination of bespoke hands-on interventions and practical self-management strategies that give people the confidence to move forward.

Hello, I’m Katie

I’m really excited to be supporting my husband with his new physiotherapy clinic here in Crowborough. My main job is working in a recruitment agency, but I also help out at the clinic, getting stuck in behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly.

My role here is all about the operations and admin — from organising the day-to-day side of things to making sure patients feel welcome and looked after. It’s been such a rewarding experience to combine my organisational skills with my love of helping people, and to see the clinic grow from an idea into a place where the community can come for expert care.

This clinic is very much a family effort, and I feel lucky to be part of its journey. I can’t wait to see how we continue to grow and support the health and wellbeing of our community here in Crowborough.
